Houston’s Best Restaurant Take-Out and Drink Kit options during COVID-19

Houston is one of the greatest food destinations in the United States and home to over 10,000 restaurants with every type of cuisine you can imagine. A lot of these restaurants are owned by locals who have made it their mission to provide authentic food and superior customer service. During these difficult times, some of these restaurants will never open again as they aren’t making enough sales from to-go orders. Below, I’ve included a round-up of to-go food deals from some of my favorite locally-owned Houston restaurants. Comfort food to me is some really really good Asian food. My favorites include Shaking Beef from Pho Tan An, Bombay Basil Chicken from Alings and Panang Curry or Pad-Kee-Mao from Kara Wok.

My favorite Tex-Mex classics include The Rustic, El Big Bad and Monkey’s Tail. The Rustic is offering a $15 gift card for every entrée ordered that you can use at a later date. They are also offering Quarantine and Chill Meal Kits that vary daily but always include proteins, sides and all the fixin’s. Want to enjoy The Rustic and give back? You can order a Hot Chicken & Cheese sandwich for a hospital worker, and The Rustic will match it by donating an additional two Hot Chicken and Cheese sandwiches to our frontline healthcare workers.

The Beef Fajitas at El Big Bad are absolutely delicious and are made with 44 Farms Sirloin. You can get them for one ($24.95) or for more ($49.95). All the fixin’s including rice, beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, and flour tortillas are included.

Monkey’s Tail is offering their Taco Box to-go for just $24 with your choice of meat, flour or corn tortillas, red and green sauce, refried beans and limes!

A good sandwich is the key to my happiness! My favorites include the Chicken Banh Mi from Roostar, the Chicken Shawarma from Phoenicia Speciality Foods and the Crunchy Chicken Sandwich from Local Foods. Yes, chicken is my favorite lunch protein and you can get any of these sandwiches via curbside pick-up! Local Foods is also selling $25 produce boxes with lots of veggies from local farmers around Houston.

My favorite date night food has to be French! Brasserie du Parc and Etoile Cuisine et Bar have daily specials that range from $38-$58 and include an assortment of soups, entrée, and wine for two! They also have a limited menu that’s offered daily and delivery within a 5-mile radius.

Since it is Crawfish season, I have been hitting up Lotus Seafood weekly to fulfill my cravings and ordering their Loud Pack, 6 wings and fries, Crack Sauce and their Daiquiris that get me the perfect amount of tipsy! From 2-5 p.m. you can get Crawfish for just $5/1lb. They are also offering 200 kids lunches for free and giving free meals to healthcare workers. Check out their Instagram page for all the details.

There’s no better time to try out a local coffee or dessert shop! Try an Ice Capp from Boomtown Coffee in The Heights or an immunity booster Herbal tea called Echinacea Essence from Foam Coffee House. If you’re like me, you might want to use this time to become the coffee expert at your house. You can order coffee and brewing equipment from Blendin Coffee Club in Sugar Land (they are offering free shipping for orders over $25).

You can pick up a fresh-baked loaf of bread and some scrumptious treats from Commonbond Bakery. The Sweet Boutique in Sugar Land is home to the most unique dessert I have ever heard of – the Mochi Donut! Last, but not least, my new favorite local ice cream shop, Fat Cat Creamery is serving delicious home-made ice cream every day until 10 p.m. I really enjoyed the Salted Butter Caramel ice cream with warm praline sauce and homemade whipped cream. I can’t wait to go back and try their Banana Dreamboat and Blueberry Stracciatella ice cream flavors

Halal Guys (Westchase) and Craft Pita have been fulfilling all my Mediterranean food cravings. Both restaurants are now offering a drive-thru service so you don’t even have to leave your car! I love getting the Chicken and Falafel bowl with all the fixings from Halal Guys and the healthy Chicken Dinner from Craft Pita that is just $35 and includes: a whole Rotisserie Chicken, large Fattoush Salad, a pint of Hummus, a pint of Rice Pilaf, Pita Bread and Garlic Aioli.

New York Style Pizza anyone? Frank’s Pizza in Downtown is offering their full menu for to-go and delivery. This includes their delicious pizzas like the Pesto Chicken, or Bar-B-Que Chicken made with extra cheese. You can also feast on their Wings, Beef Lasagna (a personal favorite) and Cheese Pizza Rolls! You can feed your entire family and have leftovers with their group meals that are also available!

Two Guys Pizzeria in the Med Center area is also available for pickup and has delivery available via GrubHub, or DoorDash. They also have a 28” pizza available for all of you with big families!

I can’t forget about my favorite food trucks that are still firing up delicious meals. If you haven’t tried the Chicken Shawarma Sandwich or the Italian Beef Shawarma from Abu Omar Halal you are definitely missing out! They have 5 locations and delivery available through UberEats and Doordash and Postmates. Oh My Gogi, Houston’s first food truck also has their full menu available at their Rice Village and Heights locations. Try the OMG! Fries with Bulgogi, the Gogi Melt, and the Ramen Burger – they will not disappoint! Be sure to check out their Instagram for hours of operation and more.

You guys know I can’t live without getting my Indian and Pakistani food fix, so I’ve been hitting up Aga’s Restaurant for Goat Chops, Tarka Daal, Butter Chicken Handi, and their delicious Garlic Naan. You can get 15% off when you order directly from Aga’s for curbside or in-store pick-up. They are also offering FREE delivery through Door Dash and UberEats.

Looking for some drinks? The Rustic is offering Mimosa Kits ($12) and Margarita Kits ($8). El Big Bad is also offering Margarita Mix with its famous fresh squeezed lemon and lime juices and agave nectar. One quart will give you around 16-22 margaritas and is just $18! Monkey’s Tail has Margarita Kits, Moscow Mule Kits, and Old Fashion kits all for $25 each, and includes alcohol. I could use any of these specials right about now…
